October 11th is my wedding anniversary, so it seems fitting that today, our superpower would be LOVE!
Not the kind of love we get – that’s a gift. Of course that kind of love is an amazing part of our lives and so necessary for filling up our love buckets. But the kind of love we’re celebrating today, is the love we give.
Love is an action. A verb. At least the superpower kind of love is. And all of us ordinary extraordinary superheroes are great at it.
The people I am naturally drawn to exude love in all areas of their life. They love their husbands and wives, they love their kiddos and their parents, they love their friends and their co-workers, and they just plain love life.
Those are all different kinds of love, expressed in different ways, but the overall feeling is the same. When we show love, it leaves no doubt that the people we surround ourselves with – the people we choose to do life with – matter deeply to us. They know it because they feel it.
“What the world needs now is love, sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of.”
~Cheesy 70’s Song
Super cheesy. But super true!
And the love you give, the actions you take, they way you make the people in your life feel… matters. Every act of love matters.
You see, pure love isn’t given with the expectation of getting something in return. True love is given from an overflowing of your heart. It just is. And it is amazing.
Our world does need more love. There really isn’t enough. And with every act of love that overflows from your heart and lands in someone else’s, our world becomes a little bit better. A little bit gentler. A little bit kinder. And a little bit more loving.
The funny thing with love is, that while you are giving it without expectation of getting something in return, you really do get something in return. Love multiplies like frisky little bunnies. You give a little, you get a lot. But it starts with what you give. It starts with you. It starts with one simple act of love.
Today, I encourage you to love your people! The ones you’ve chosen to do life with. Tell them, show them, make sure they know they matter. One simple act of love at a time. Because love, my friends, is a very powerful superpower!
How do you love the people in your life?
What ways can you tell them or show them that they matter to you?
Superpower Side Note: When you are craving more love in your life, start by giving more love. It may sound silly to spend something you don’t have, but trust me. Love is like a boomerang and the boomerang only comes back once you throw it. You have to give it first. You have to let it go and put it out in the world. And I promise it will come back to you in some way. In wonderful ways.
