Be an Encourager!

The leaves may be sturdy and strong, but without the right care, the flowers will wither away.

Clearly this plant that has the misfortune of living in my office has been deprived of necessary encouragement. Slightly neglected, but still pretty. Not quite the best that it could be. Water may be a good place to start! {I obviously do not have much of a green thumb.}

We all grow. We rise to the occasion. We are strong women! But like the plant, our flowers fade too when our critic’s voices are louder than our encourager’s.

The place where our deepest selves are found, the true beauty of our souls, can only be cultivated by encouragement. By the belief that we can accomplish what we’ve set our hearts and minds to do. We just need a little sunshine for our souls!

An understanding nod. A kind word. A pat on the back. A can-do attitude. Grace.

All evidence that we are on the right path and should continue our progress.

A snide comment. A lack of interest. A shot to the heart. Destructive internal chatter. Contempt.

All convey that we are doing something wrong, or are simply not good enough.

One tender and heartfelt compliment can completely silence the critics. Even the quietest whisper of praise can drown out the loudest naysayer.

Listen for those whispers amidst the shouts. Let them speak louder than the doubts.

Encouragement can breathe life into a dreary place. Encouragement can provide courage for what lies ahead.

To be encouraged, we must also be an encourager.

Choose to lift someone up instead of tear them down. Choose to believe the best in people and circumstances. Choose to listen rather than be heard. Choose to find the good in situations instead of searching for the bad. Choose kindness over cattiness.

Today, I encourage you to speak light and love to those whose paths you cross.

Tomorrow, that encouragement will find its way back to you tenfold.

Lord knows there are enough critics in the world. Be an encourager!

I love the example of plant needing encouragement to grow. I especially like this line: “Listen for those whispers amidst the shouts. Let them speak louder than the doubts.”
It is so true. Encouragement isn’t always the rainbow we want it to be, sometimes it’s just a shaft of moonlight on a dark night.
    Thanks for sharing this week!

The comparison between a plant and our lives is such a great analogy. It’s amazing to me how one word of encouragement in the middle of life can wipe away the criticism we hear. I pray I always use my words to cheer and not to tear. Thanks so much for sharing this!
